Apple Is Said to Be Preparing Redesigned AirPods for 2021 and a Second-Generation AirPods Pro for 2022 — {link} — According to persons with knowledge of the topic, Apple is preparing a redesign of its entry-level AirPods for this year and a second generation of the AirPods Pro for the next year. The new base AirPods will be the product’s first replacement since March 2019 and will have a completely new design that is primarily reminiscent of the AirPods Pro. The earbuds will feature a redesigned shell and shorter stems protruding from the bottom of each. The AirPods Pro, which will launch ensuing year, will be the product’s first update since October 2019 and will have updated movement sensors with a focus on health monitoring, the individuals claimed, requesting anonymity due to the nature of the plans. Apple had previously stated that it intended to unveil the updated AirPods Pro as soon as this year, Bloomberg News reported in 2020. The update to the company’s wireless earbuds line will reinforce the company’s wearables, residence, and equipment segments, which have developed rapidly to account for greater than $30 billion (about Rs. 2,17,560 crores) in yearly revenue, accounting for greater than 10% of total revenue. Apple’s final AirPods-related hardware launch was in December with the over-ear AirPods Max headphones. This $549 (about Rs. 39,800) pair garnered criticism for bugs and its exorbitant price, but was lauded for its materials and sound. Apple has only recently caught up with demand for the product, and it is not currently working on a second generation of the AirPods Max, though it has teased offering additional color options in the future. As part of its broader residence, audio, and equipment strategy, Bloomberg News stated that Apple has also initiated early development on a HomePod speaker with an integrated display, as well as a tool that combines the capabilities of a HomePod, FaceTime digicam, and Apple TV. The market for audio systems with screens is already crowded. Apple introduced the HomePod tiny speaker earlier this year and detailed a modest update to the Apple TV set-top field last month. Apple has also considered a slimmer design for the upcoming AirPods Pro that does away with the stems. This design will debut on new Beats-branded wireless earphones scheduled to be released later this month.
